Abstract

This research article is a description of the results of a structural study within the framework of comparative literature of three legendary stories of disobedient children in three different regions, namely the folklore of the legend of Sampuraga from Mandailing (North Sumatra), with the folklore of the legend of Pulau Si Kantan from Labuhan Batu (North Sumatra), and the folklore of the legend of Gunung Batu Bangkai from Laksado Hulu Sungai Selatan (South Kalimantan).  This study aims to describe the differences and similarities of the story structures of these three folklore legends within the framework of comparative literature.  Data were collected using the read-and-record technique. The data were analyzed through the stages of reduction, presentation, and verification. The results showed that the similarity of the structure of the three folklore legends is found in the elements of theme and mandate. The differences in the story structure are found in the elements of character character, characteristics, plot, and setting
