Abstract

Minangkabau oral literature remain simportant in maintaining the cultural identity of the community. In the changing context of modernity, Minangkabau oral tradition plays a vital role. Scholars believe oral literature holds an important place in preserving and transmitting a society's cultural values, traditions and identity. The Minangkabau literature studied included Mak Rabuak, Dendang Pauah, Shalawat Dulang, Bagurau and Randai in the Korong Gadang area of Kuranji District, Padang city. The research uses a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytic method. The aim of there search is to explore the role of Minangkabau oral tradition in maintaining cultural identity a midst changing modernity. Data will becollected through in-depth interviews with arts practitioners, cultural experts, and community members involved in oral traditions. The research aims to gain diverse perspectives on the meaning and function of oral literature such as dendang pauh, mak rabuak, randai, salawat dulang, and bagurau.
